My friend David (from camp last summer) alerted me to his sister’s appearance on NPR last week and sent me an audiolink. His sister, Kelly McDaniel, is a therapist specializing in sex and love addiction, and NPR was doing a segment on the subject in an ongoing series his local affiliate was doing on addiction in general.
Kelly appears alongside another woman who wrote a memoir about going through a love addiction treatment. It’s a pretty fascinating 18 minutes, though nothing that was terribly surprising (this has been a sort of pet interest of mine for awhile now). Kelly’s talking about the neurological activity involved in both the feelings of love and sex, and more specifically, arousal, was particularly interesting. We really are just biology. Kind of scary. But also pretty awesome.
